Blue Jays Best Frogs in Pitching Duel
|
The Bluefield Blue Jays claimed a close win over the Fayetteville Frogs, due in large part to P.J. Denherder. The Bluefield right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. The winning pitcher was Denherder, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. Ricardo Deco got the save, the 1st for him this season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Blue Jays had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when designated hitter Tyler Gold hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Verne Craft and made the score 2-0, Blue Jays. Gold was 1 for 4.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Denherder said.
The loss drops Fayetteville to 2-1.
