Mountaineers Come Back Late to Top Braves, 3-2
|
The Erwin Mountaineers had to overcome a good performance from Danville pitcher Keith Phillips to claim a 3-2 win at American Legion Field. Phillips went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Erwin reliever Erwin Maida was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Holden Neenan took the loss for Danville. Shane Moore stitched up the save, his 1st.
Malcolm Tyler delivered a big hit for Erwin. The left fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mountaineers ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Tyler said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
Erwin goes to 1-2.
