Erwin Beats Kinston, Goes to 8-2
|
Erwin Mountaineers starter Sheldon Johnson was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Kinston Indians, 4-1. Johnson, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up no walks. Jeron Murrow finished the game for Erwin and earned his 4th save.
The Mountaineers had to work out of trouble with one out in the top of the eighth. The score was 4-1, Erwin. But Kinston, with runners on 1st and 2nd, had mounted a threat. Logan Alona dug in at the plate. But on a 0-1 fastball, Alona grounded out.
The Mountaineers have hit the ground running, raising their record to 8-2. While it's still too soon to talk about Erwin hoisting their 9th R+ Championship Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
