Blue Jays Knock Off Braves, 3-1
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Bluefield Blue Jays and Danville Braves were able to complete their ballgame.
David Anderson was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at American Legion Field. In fact, the Bluefield Blue Jays right-hander was instrumental in his team's 3-1 victory over the Danville Braves. Anderson picked up the win for Bluefield, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 5-1. Ivan Jiménez got credit for the save for Bluefield. It was his 4th of the year.
Bluefield used the hitting of J.J. Reta to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 3-1. For the game, Reta had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
In postgame remarks, Reta hailed his team's "single-minded focus."
Bluefield's record now stands at 18-13, placing them third in the Appalachian League East Division.
