8-6 Triumph Runs Jawns Streak to 7 Games
|
The Delco Jawns trumped the Harlan Smokies, 8-6, at H.P. Hunnicutt Field. Delco right fielder Steve Tovar was terrific. He was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Sherman Buchanan earned the win to go to 3-0. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. The save went to John Artiaga, his 2nd this season.
In the bottom of the fifth, Delco second baseman Henry Bellew had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Bellew stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 4-2, Delco. For the game, he was 2-5 with 2 singles.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Delco manager Joe Cline.
The Jawns now have a record of 24-13 with the win over Harlan.
