The Bluefield Blue Jays soundly defeated the Kinston Indians, 14-3, at Ballpark of Kinston. Howard Burns, who is tied for 5th in the APP in home runs with 9, let his bat do the talking. He was 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for Bluefield. The win lifted the Bluefield record to 27-16.
Bluefield used a clutch at-bat from Branco De La Cruz to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"When you don't put the pitches where they're supposed to be, they hit you hard," said Kinston skipper Gunner Litherland.
