Thanks in large part to second baseman Wesley Pauly, the Welch Miners beat the Bluefield Blue Jays, 8-4. Pauly went 1 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Patrick Yeager was the winner. He's now 2-2. The loser was 21-year old left-handed pitcher Leroy Johnson. The Miners saw their win-loss record go to 22-29. At the same time, the Blue Jays fell to 32-19.

In the bottom of the fourth, Welch third baseman Abraham Peters had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Peters stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 6-4, Welch. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch.
