Twins 8, Smokies 2
|
The Elizabethton Twins beat the Harlan Smokies, 8-2, at Joe O'Brien Field. The Twins got a fine performance from designated hitter Quinton Adkins, who went 4-5 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. At 37-30, Elizabethton is in third place in the Appalachian League West Division.
Arturo Cabrera had a big 3-run home run for the Twins in the bottom of the first inning. With Elizabethton leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Jonjo Rogers and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 9th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Twins ahead, 6-0.
"We didn't put our best foot forward tonight," said losing manager Carson Lee.
