Stampede Beat Smokies, 2-0
|
Ballpark of Medicine Hat hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
In a low-scoring contest, Medicine Hat pitcher Chet Costa was marvelous in his team's 2-0 win. Costa, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Scott Austin earned the save for Medicine Hat, his 17th of the year.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Jack Diaz didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Harlan trailing 2-0, Diaz retired Dewey Grantham to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Diaz, with a wink.
The Stampede saw their win-loss record go to 32-15. At the same time, the Smokies fell to 33-13.
