Blue Jays Knock Off Cannons, 5-4
|
A good performance from second baseman Joe Blake helped the Bluefield Blue Jays defeat the Calgary Cannons, 5-4. Blake went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Blue Jays. Sterling Wayne finished the game for Bluefield and earned his 5th save. The Blue Jays, at 24-26, sit in 6th place in the Appalachian League East Division.
With Bluefield leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Blake hit a fastball from Luke Burmann for a grand slam home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-0.
"They played a better game than we did," said Calgary skipper Eli Catillo.
