Sock Puppets Get Ripped, 16-1
|
Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Burlington fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Voyagers had to.
The Great Falls Voyagers easily defeated the Burlington Sock Puppets, 16-1, at Brent Brown Ballpark, with center fielder Marco Díaz a main contributor to the win. He was 4 for 5 with 4 singles and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for Great Falls. T.R. Schultz, now 5-1, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
In the top of the second, Díaz had one of his most important at-bats: a run-scoring single off Donavan Thomas that staked the Voyagers to a 2-1 lead.
"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Díaz.
With the victory, the Voyagers record stands at 22-14.
