Black Bears Defeat Pirates, 3-1
The 3-1 Virginia win over Pittsburgh was due largely to Celso Deida. The Black Bears shortstop went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Pirates fall to 13-19 and continue their lackluster start to the 2052 season.

With Virginia leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Deida hit a fastball from J.R. Thornock for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Black Bears ahead, 3-0.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Deida told a Virginia Today reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
