Angels Get Hard-Earned Win
|
The Indianapolis Ignition wasted an inspired, 6-inning effort from starter Eli Zile, falling, 2-1, to the California Angels at Disney Stadium. The winner was Shawn Outhier in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Kendall Matthews took the loss. Ponce Fernandez picked up the save, his 3rd.
The Angels beat the Ignition in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Fisher Myers produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Nate Leetch, Myers gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"Tough loss," said Indianapolis manager Jacob Thomas. "This one will stick in my craw."
California, with the win, sits at 12-23.
