Phillies Win Pitchers' Duel, 2-1, Versus Black Bears
|
In a tight game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Virginia Black Bears, pitcher Tucker Day was terrific on the mound. The Philadelphia right-hander helped his team to the 2-1 win. Day yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 9-9. The 4th-place Phillies hiked their record to 65-77.
Leo Meharry had a big run-scoring double for the Phillies in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Chase Yamada and swatted a double to right. It was his 24th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 2-0.
"Glad to get this win," said Meharry. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
