The Virginia Black Bears beat the Detroit Tigers, 8-5. Virginia pitcher and Caguas, Puerto Rico, native José Luís De La Cruz led the way. De La Cruz got the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 3 hits and walked 3 over 6.1 innings. De La Cruz allowed 3 runs. At 17-25, Virginia is in last place in the Eastern Region Atlantic Division.

It could have been a different outcome for Virginia, had it not been for Richard Chilekwu, the former first round draft pick . Chilekwu contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Virginia up, 3-0.

"That's a solid team effort right there," said De La Cruz. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
