Baker, Phillies Beat Marlins, 9-7
|
The 9-7 Philadelphia win over Miami was due largely to Monte Baker. The Phillies center fielder hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 5. Pat Judd, 8-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. The Phillies, at 74-73, sit in third place in the Eastern Region Atlantic Division.
Baker had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Billy Ott, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Phillies a 9-7 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Baker.
Baker told a Philadelphia Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
