Blue Jays Score Late, Stun Tigers, 5-3
|
The Detroit Tigers got a superb performance from pitcher Franklin Schmitt, but the Toronto Blue Jays still won the game, 5-3. Schmitt threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Toronto leads the Eastern Region North Division by 16½ games.
The result might have been different for Toronto, had it not been for Kymani Whitley, the former first round draft pick . Whitley stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Toronto up, 4-3. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Whitley said after the game.
