The Virginia Black Bears did just enough to sneak past the Memphis Blues, 6-5, at The Sparrow's Nest. Virginia pitcher Todd Nguyen, in particular, had a standout performance. Jeremy Reed snagged the win in relief. He goes to 7-1 on the season. Charles Nichol suffered the loss. The third-place Black Bears sport a record of 88-71.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Virginia third baseman Quenton Wilton, facing Charles Nichol, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Black Bears the 6-5 win.

"Todd went out and did what we needed," said Virginia manager Jacob Crenshaw.
