Giants Stay Hot, Beat Mariners, 7-5
|
The San Francisco Giants trumped the Seattle Mariners, 7-5, at Oracle Park. San Francisco center fielder Gael Villarreal was terrific. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 3 times. The winner was Hudson Wilt in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Dud Hedrick took the loss. Earning his 26th save for San Francisco was Maxwell Baxter.
Nixon Myers, who is tied for 2nd in the WEST in bases on balls with 116, took Seattle hurler Dud Hedrick deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 3-run home run put the Giants on top, 6-5. In all, Myers had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"The team always comes first," Myers told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
The first-place Giants have won 5 in a row.
