Orioles Earn 3-2 Win Versus Black Bears
|
The Baltimore Orioles eked out a 3-2 win versus the Virginia Black Bears at The Sparrow's Nest. Nobody did more than pitcher Jay Gordon. He was terrific. Gordon, now 14-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 11, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The third-place Orioles have won 8 in a row.
Baltimore used a timely hit from Jitters Childress to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Orioles ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"We'll enjoy this ride as long as it lasts," said Orioles manager Chris Marcks.
