Hawks Better Spartans, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Rick Grier was a major factor in the 3-2 Boise Hawks triumph over the Olympia Spartans. Jesse Tso, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 15th save. By defeating Olympia, the 4th-place Hawks improved to 31-25.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Hawks had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when center fielder Jeronimo Pizarro hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Chase Pulaski and made the score 3-0, Hawks. Pizarro went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"The fact of the matter is that we had a shot to win," said losing manager Jim Todd.
