The Virginia Beach Mariners licked the Traverse City Pit Spitters, 6-3. José Lamas deserved a big chunk of the credit. The designated hitter was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Mariners. Brendan Bond earned the win. Mercury Gracia took the loss for Traverse City. The 4th-place Mariners are now 58-42, the Pit Spitters 42-58.
It could have been a different outcome for Virginia Beach, had it not been for Jerry Rian, the 25-year old first baseman . Rian contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put Virginia Beach up, 3-0.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Rian after the game.
