Fireflies Go Down to Defeat, 3-2
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Jonesboro Growlers and Columbia Fireflies.
The Jonesboro Growlers picked up a win at Growlers Ballpark, taking down the Columbia Fireflies, 3-2. Starting pitcher Kurt Hitchens was a big reason why. Wyatt Turner got the save, the 6th for him this season.
The Fireflies had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Growlers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old third baseman Karl Hyman came to the plate. Hyman hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 fastball from Columbia hurler Noel Anderson. It was Hyman's 10th home run of the year.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Hitchens told the Jonesboro Daily.
Jonesboro is now 43-56, Columbia 43-56.
