Blue Jays Deal Mets 5-2 Defeat
|
Dunedin Blue Jays starter Stephen Montgomery pitched his team past the St. Lucie Mets, 5-2. Montgomery, the winner, moves to 6-5. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. Percy Brosz finished the game for Dunedin and earned his 3rd save.
The Mets had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old second baseman Jason Brantner Jr. came to the plate. Brantner Jr. hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 fastball from St. Lucie hurler Wes Stinson. It was Brantner Jr.'s 27th double of the year.
Brantner Jr. said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
The win puts the Blue Jays at 59-48, while the Mets drop to 65-42.
