Mudcats Suffer 2-0 Home Defeat
The umbrellas came out during the Virginia Beach-Carolina contest at Five County Stadium.

In a tight tilt between the Virginia Beach Mariners and the Carolina Mudcats, Danny Brand was the deciding factor. The Virginia Beach right-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. The winning pitcher was Brand, now 9-7. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6.

Virginia Beach took a 2-0 lead on Victor Echevarria's 5th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Echevarria hit in the top of the ninth, left Carolina pitcher Ian Nelson visibly frustrated.

"Every time I step on the mound, I want to go out there and compete and bring my best game," said Brand.

The win puts the Mariners at 65-41, while the Mudcats drop to 57-49.
