Starting pitcher Gabe Terry gave the Stockton Ports a rock-solid effort. The Seattle, Washington native helped his team defeat the Bakersfield Blaze, 3-2, at Banner Island Ballpark. Matt Rider closed the door for Stockton, picking up his 1st save of the year. Stockton has a record of 1-1.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Peyton Allard came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Bakersfield pitcher Clinton DeWit, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Stockton on top, 3-2.
"Gabe was throwing free and easy," said Stockton manager Billy Hernandez.
