Crawdads Bump Off Shorebirds, 5-1

A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Hickory Crawdads and Delmarva Shorebirds.
The Hickory Crawdads overcame a fine performance by Delmarva designated hitter Neil Clifton to defeat the Shorebirds, 5-1, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Clifton was 2-3 with a double and a walk. Hickory pitcher Sal Marte got the win, upping his record to 6-0. Don Kjaerluff got the loss. Troy Robles recorded the save, his 1st.
Hickory used a well-timed hit by Harvard Wallace to capture the win. The right fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Crawdads ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
In postgame comments to the Hickory Herald, Wallace said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Hickory now sits in third place in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division at 56-49.
