Crawdads Steamroll Legends, 18-1
|
The Hickory Crawdads clobbered the Lexington Legends, 18-1, at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Leading the onslaught was Lincoln Heeg. He was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring once for Hickory. Jonah Chellman was the winner. Over 5.2 innings, he yielded no runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. With the win, the Crawdads have a record of 59-52.
With Hickory leading 14-0 in the top of the seventh, Heeg came up to bat against Lexington pitcher Bronco Shackelford. Heeg hit a fastball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 9th home run of the season put the Crawdads on top, 18-0.
"Getting beat like that is never fun," said losing manager Jonathan Barfield.
