The Columbia Fireflies beat the Rome Braves, 6-2, at State Mutual Stadium. The Fireflies got a fine performance from catcher Wayne Papstein, who was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. The Fireflies go to 44-67, putting them last in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.

It could have been a different outcome for Columbia, had it not been for Jess Knudsen, the 22-year old third baseman . Knudsen contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Columbia up, 2-0.

"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Knudsen. "Just do my job."
