The Columbia Fireflies beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 5-4, in part because of shortstop Tony Williams. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Columbia reliever Trevor White was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Ric McManus took the loss for Greensboro. Purvis Chigozie closed the game out for Columbia, earning his 10th save.

Williams had a timely hit for Columbia in the bottom of the seventh. With Columbia trailing 4-2, he turned a 2-2 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season, making it 5-4, Columbia.

"We're trying to go out there and win games," Williams told the Columbia News, "and we played pretty well tonight."

The win gives Columbia a season record of 61-48.
