The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Columbia Fireflies, 5-4. Doing his part was catcher Ben Rayford, who was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. Hickory reliever Vladko Kurtovic picked up the win, raising his record to 6-3. Willow Merritt was tagged with the loss. Troy Robles converted his 5th save in 5 tries.

Had Sam Blair not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Blair hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Crawdads.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Blair told the Hickory Herald.

With the victory, the Crawdads upped their record to 64-53.
