In a low-scoring contest between the Columbia Fireflies and the Hickory Crawdads, Gabriel Rister was the X factor. The Columbia right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Nicolás Alou, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 34th save. Columbia is now 71-47. Hickory is 60-58.

Columbia used a well-timed hit by Luke Ciampa to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Fireflies ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Well, it's always frustrating to lose," said Hickory manager Pitu Martínez.
