Giants Cut Down Royals, 7-0
|
Kansas City had no answer for San Francisco Giants hurler D.J. Newton, who overwhelmed Royals hitters as the Giants coasted to victory, 7-0. Newton, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. The Giants raised their record to 27-26.
The game could have flipped with one out in the top of the fifth. But D.J. Newton made what his manager later called "an A-plus pitch." With runners on 1st and 2nd and Kansas City trailing 3-0, Newton threw a changeup to Anastacio Bamba and Bamba hit into a double play.
