Rattlers Edged by Cavalry, 2-1
|
Last man standing. Which team would it be?
The New Westminster Cavalry wiggled past the Redmond Rattlers, 2-1, at Ron Tonkin Field. The win was highlighted by the performance of New Westminster pitcher Tobias Slavich. The win belonged to Enrique Ruiz in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Salvador Griego took the loss for Redmond.
New Westminster shortstop Pedro Covarrubias delivered a 2-run home run in the top of the 18th. Overall, he went 3 for 8, picking up 1 home run, 1 single, and 1 double. He scored 1 run and knocked in 2.
Afterward, Cavalry manager Lou Kajioka was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
New Westminster, now 34-22, holds down 5th place in the Northwest League North Division.
