The Wild Card Series got off to a quiet start, with the traveling Yakima Valley Pippins taking a low-scoring, 2-1 win over the host Eugene Emeralds. Yakima Valley right-hander Felipe Gregorio was marvelous at PK Park. The Pippins now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Nicolas Jeppesen had a productive at-bat in the top of the fourth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd, the Yakima Valley center fielder hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 2-1, Pippins, and led to the win.

"By the skin of our teeth, man," Gregorio told the Yakima Valley Gazette. "But hey, it still counts. A few more by the skin of our teeth is fine with me."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at PK Park in Eugene.
