Fireflies Decked By Growlers, 11-1
|
The Jonesboro Growlers scored a convincing win at Spirit Communications Park, defeating the Columbia Fireflies, 11-1. One of the hitting stars was John Rife, who is tied for 6th in the SAL in home runs with 22, who went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Roscoe Flax was the winner. He's now 6-6. The loser was Donald Weatherbee. The loss makes Columbia 55-77.
The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Rife hit a solo home run off Donald Weatherbee. It propelled the Growlers into the lead, 2-1.
Growlers manager Cesar Mejia had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
