Grasshoppers Dismiss Shorebirds, 4-2
|
The Greensboro Grasshoppers topped the Delmarva Shorebirds, 4-2, in South Atlantic League action at NewBridge Bank Park. The standout performance belonged to Greensboro pitcher and Apple Valley, California, native Nathan Ampey. Ampey picked up the win for Greensboro, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 5-10. Rogelio Corbett recorded the save, making him 4 for 6.
Gabriel Del Castillo had a big 2-run home run for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Greensboro leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Andrew Marin and swatted a home run to left. It was his 16th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Grasshoppers ahead, 4-0.
Del Castillo attributed the win to "concerted effort and focus."
The Grasshoppers, at 58-76, inhabit 7th place in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
