The Puebla Mermen and Yucatan Matadors played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
In a low-scoring clash between Puebla and Yucatan, pitcher Sam Poeling was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 win. Poeling, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs.
The Mermen got a big at-bat from center fielder Kameron Lackey. For the game, Lackey was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Puebla a 2-0 lead.
"Every loss hurts," said Yucatan manager Ángel Fuentes. "But this was a tough one."
With the loss, Yucatan falls to 3-2.
