Ponce Blasts Twins, Mountaineers Take Game 3, 5-4
|
The Erwin Mountaineers defeated the Elizabethton Twins, 5-4, in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series. A big contributor was pinch hitter Matadór Ponce, who went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win moves Erwin into a 2-1 lead in the series.
There was more than one reason the Mountaineers beat the Twins, but Ponce's big at-bat in the bottom of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 4-3 lead when he hit a grand slam home run.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Ponce, "one at-bat at a time."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Edmonton in Erwin.
