Wild Card Series Game 1 Victory for Cruz and Moose Jaw
|
When he got to Moose Jaw, Javier Cruz was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Wild Card Series.
The 22-year-old rookie left-hander shut out the visiting Calgary Cannons, 1-0, in a remarkable performance at Moose Jaw Grounds. With the win, the Diamond Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
In the bottom of the third, Owen Morgan delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases empty, the Moose Jaw designated hitter hit a solo home run, putting the Diamond Dogs in front, 1-0.
"It's a mindset," said Cruz. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Moose Jaw Grounds in Moose Jaw.
