Almost There: Martinez On Cusp of WCS Triumph After 4-1 Win
|
Despite a great performance by Stockton starter Vic Tate, the Martinez Clippers defeated the Ports by the score of 4-1 at Banner Island Ballpark. Tate threw 6.1 innings allowing 1 run, but he couldn't prevent the Clippers from moving one game closer to the Divisional Series. Martinez now leads the Wild Card Series 3-1.
Martinez used a timely hit from Amadei Iglesias to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Clippers ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a difference-maker.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Iglesias.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton.
