Road Win Lifts Modesto to 1-0 Lead in DS
|
The Modesto Nuts wasted no time taking the lead in the Divisional Series, beating the San Jose Giants at San Jose Municipal Stadium by the score of 4-1. The win gives Modesto a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Nuts right-hander Erwin Mejia threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball.
Modesto used a well-timed hit by Duke Avila to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Nuts ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Avila attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at San Jose Municipal Stadium in San Jose.
