Road Win Lifts Batavia to 1-0 Lead in RCS
|
The 23-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the State College Spikes worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Vic Thompson seemed like a risky move for the Spikes, but it was one of the few things that went right at Bowman Field today. Thompson tossed 6 solid innings, but it was all for naught after State College dropped a 2-0 decision. With the win, Batavia took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Regional Championship Series.
Batavia used a clutch hit from Richard Le Goyet to get the win. The left fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Muckdogs ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"It's always fun to see the other guys getting frustrated, but the series isn't over and we've got to make sure to keep them on their heels," Batavia manager Adam LaBreck said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Bowman Field in Williamsport.
