Clinton Breaks Through for First Win in A Championship Series; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Clinton LumberKings nearly wasted a strong game from starter Duardo Vega, but were saved by some timely hitting in a walk-off win over the Kannapolis Intimidators today.
Vega was exceptional in the 2-1 win at Ashford University Field. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The win allowed Clinton to cut the Kannapolis lead in the best-of-7 series to 1-2.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 13th inning, when Clinton third baseman Kyle Vitale, facing Justin Ledezma, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the LumberKings the 2-1 win.
"I hate extra innings," Clinton manager Fernando Vasquez said. "It makes everyone more tired, wears out the bullpen, wears out the fans. Even winning doesn't make me feel good about it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ashford University Field in Clinton.
