Owls Hammered by Spires, Drop Game 4 to Blaze
Bakersfield third baseman Anthony Spires was the difference-maker for the Blaze in what turned into a shootout with the Oxford Owls. Spires earned accolades after going 3-for-4 in the 9-5 Blaze win. With the victory, the Blaze moved into a 2-2 tie in the best-of-7 series.

A key moment came with one out in the bottom of the second. That's when Spires hit a sinker from Joshua Darvin for a run-scoring single, putting Bakersfield up, 2-0.

"Ever since we qualified for the playoffs, the guys have been razzing me about how I'm going to embarrass myself out there," the rookie Spires said with a smile. "I'm glad to prove them wrong, at least for a day."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jim Perry Stadium in Bakersfield.
