Blue Jays Lasso 4-1 Victory
|
Pitcher Cedric Blackwell was sensational for the Toronto Blue Jays in his team's 4-1 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals. Blackwell earned the win. The save went to Ryan Iwanicki, number 4 for him. Toronto is now 36-33, while St. Louis is 34-35.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old left fielder Jesse Fildes came to the plate. Fildes hit a solo home run on a 2-2 curveball from St. Louis hurler Lee Fuentez. It was Fildes's 4th home run of the year.
"Cedric's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Rafael Mier, the Blue Jays manager.
