The Toronto Blue Jays topped the Houston Astros by a score of 5-4. Leading the way was catcher Mendy Pérez. Pérez was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Blue Jays. Earning his 19th save of the year was Homer Covarrubias. Toronto, at 54-18, holds down first place in the Eastern Region North Division.
Toronto used a well-timed hit by Fadil Ring to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.
"We ground out the win," said Ring. "That's all that matters."
