Duff Handcuffs Acereros, Rojos del Aguila Seize 1-0 Advantage in R1
The Veracruz Rojos del Aguila started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Monclova Acereros in a walk-off in the 12th inning. Veracruz took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Eric Duff. The left-hander threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Rojos del Aguila a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.

Late in the game, first baseman Juan Ventura had a big at-bat for Veracruz. In the bottom of the 12th, he hit a run-scoring single off Bobby Carver. The play gave the Rojos del Aguila a 2-1 lead.

"This place went bonkers at the end," Ventura said.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Rojos del Aguila Ballpark. Slated to start are Curt Prewitt for the Monclova Acereros and Esteban Gamez for the the Veracruz Rojos del Aguila.
