Padres Lose Late, 2-1
|
Rick Young was locked and loaded, helping the Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres, 2-1. Miami reliever Marco Ortiz picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. Dolph Gervais took the loss. Miami, now 32-40, holds down third place in the Eastern Region Atlantic Division.
Elijah Mitchell went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Miami. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Mitchell came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Marlins in front, 2-1.
"The object of the game is to score more runs than they do," said Mitchell. "Mission accomplished."
