Multi-HR Day for Garcia as Blaze Overpower Cruisers, 5-1
|
The Bakersfield Blaze trumped the Santa Cruz Cruisers, 5-1, at Jim Perry Stadium. Bakersfield catcher Alfons Garcia was terrific. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Hideiichi Sato picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-0. Joseph Chang was tagged with the loss. At 16-8, the Blaze have played well so far.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Garcia hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Blaze into the lead, 3-1.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Bakersfield skipper Brian O'Kray.
