Pirates Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
The Pittsburgh Pirates moved to within one game of the Division Championship Series today, downing the visiting Tampa Bay Rays at Best Buy Ballpark by a score of 5-2. Pirates left-hander Leo Beringer was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. The win gives the Pirates a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Wild Card Series.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Sergio Rivera was at the plate when Pittsburgh scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Pirates to go in front, 3-2.

"We have been clicking right from the start of this series, so our mission statement at the moment is just don't tinker with anything," Pittsburgh manager Chris O'Brien told reporters.

The next game is set to be played Friday. The scheduled starters for the game are Kevin Whisner for Pittsburgh and Gilberto Meza for Tampa Bay.
